DJC Builder Breakfast Series
Each quarter, the Daily Journal of Commerce hosts a Builder Breakfast series aimed at networking and educational opportunities surrounding large, local projects. Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt has joined Pence Construction as presenting sponsors for the series.
The last session in April focused on the topic of “Opportunity Zones: What the Building and Design Industries Need to Know.” Panelists included Vanessa Sturgeon, co-founder of Sturgeon Development Partners’ opportunity zone fund; Dan Eller, tax attorney at Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt; and John Olivier, Senior VP of acquisitions and development at ScanlanKemperBard.
Last winter’s session was “Where to Hedge Your Bets in 2019.” Stephanie Holmberg of Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt moderated a panel discussion between Dr. Mike Wilkerson, Partner & Project Director at ECONorthwest, and Mike Salsgiver, Executive Director of the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Oregon-Columbia. They discussed everything from the building boom currently being experienced in the Portland Metro area, to public policy, changing costs and public investment, economic slowdown time frames, and the topic of the hour: what to expect in the construction industry for 2019.
The next Builder Breakfast session topic will be “Affordable Housing: What the Building and Design Industries Need to Know About the Bond Measure and Other Efforts Around the Region” and is planned for May 30th. The morning begins at 7:00 AM with breakfast and networking, followed by a panel discussion from 8:00 – 9:00 and is typically held at the Sentinel Hotel.
