From Intern to Staff Accountant: Jenny Zhang Shares Her Experience

Jenny Zhang recently shared with me the story of her journey from intern to staff accountant:

I really enjoyed my two months as a Winter Intern at Jones and Roth. I loved everything about my internship: the culture of Jones & Roth, the training, the work environment, the accountability of my supervisors, and the collaboration with my peers.

I learned a lot, not only about my focus area of affordable housing, but also about improving my communication and collaboration skills while working with managers and co-workers. I was never left on my own as a new intern. There was always someone there to help me when I had questions, whether it was a staff accountant, manager, or partner.

During the busy season, Jones & Roth as a firm really cares about their people. They ease stress by holding various activities, such as trivia nights or Sparkling Friday. They provide lunch and sweet treats on various days throughout the busy season. And, there are always plenty of fresh fruit or other snacks for us in the breakroom.

There were so many great things that I liked about my internship. I had such a good time here learning, working, and improving.

Jenny Zhang graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Accounting in 2016 and was hired as a Staff Accountant immediately after her Winter Internship. She is an active member of the Affordable Housing team.
