PNW Medical Managers Conference – Topic Survey Results

Filed under:

My colleagues, healthcare practice advisors Brian Newton, CPA and Elliott Tracy, CPA and I attended the Pacific Northwest Medical Management Conference in Tacoma. The May 8 – 10, 2019 event was held at the Tacoma Convention Center and the Hotel Murano in downtown Tacoma, Washington.

It was a terrific opportunity to connect with our Pacific Northwest healthcare practice clients, our strategic partners and a great event to meet some new folks in the practice management community.

First, a huge congratulations to Sharon Lang, Operations Manager at Washington Orthopedic Center. Sharon was the winner of the Jones & Roth gift basket, which included a host of tasty Oregon-based treats and beverages.

A couple of highlights for our team:

On Thursday, May 9th, Brian and Elliott facilitated two excellent roundtable discussions regarding the practice benchmarking process. Most of the practice managers indicated that they were engaging in benchmarking and related their challenges and successes. Several indicated that they were challenged to find relevant data by specialty and understand how to start the process. Others mentioned that they felt that the methodology could create constraining expectations. Successes included compiling a  summary of KPI’s for Providers and the benefits of increased viability to opportunities for improvement. The group definitely reached a consensus that benchmarking was a worthwhile endeavor.

We surveyed the attendees of the PNW Medical Managers Conference on which topics were most relevant to their practice, and the results are in.

We received responses from 64 Practice Managers who ranked their topics as follows:

1Front Office Success
2HR & Recruiting

Front Office Success is a topic that has consistently ranked high. This year we are hearing that HR compliance/best practices, and provider and staff recruiting/retention are primary challenges.

This excellent topic input helps the Jones & Roth team plan our healthcare webinar series. Our next webinar is “How Physician-Owned Practices Can Leverage Tax Reform Opportunities.”

Thank you to all the terrific folks we connected with at the conference. We are looking forward to seeing you next time.
